Workspace links

Connect Fields and display related objects without coupling apps.

Connect after installation

Workspaces share the same underlying Model. An integration associates Fields and objects; it does not require anticipating every catalog app when creating them. Install Quotes today and connect it to your existing Clients Workspace.

Integration configuration is available to users and AI according to permissions. AI proposals expose the same settings and effects as manual configuration.

Parameter Example value Description
Source Workspace Quotes App holding the reference
Source record type Quote Object containing the linked Field
Source Field clientId Value selecting a client
Target Workspace Clients App containing selectable records
Target record type Client Accepted object type
Target identity Stable client identifier Avoid linking through a mutable name
Selection label Company Readable search result
Reverse presentation Client quotes Group on the Client record

Open Links from a Data, Knowledge or Content Space’s collection actions. Links opens in a window, keeping the current Space visible. Closing it asks for confirmation if there are unsaved changes. Use Save in the window footer to save a complete Link configuration. It stays disabled while the configuration is incomplete or unchanged. The same configuration form is available inside a Data View under Linked sources → Choose a linked source → Manage Links. Choose the target location and Space or application, then its compatible Field, labels and relation limits. A standalone Knowledge or Content collection uses Title, separately from a Surface’s own metadata. Creating the configuration does not automatically relate existing items: open a record or Surface and explicitly select its linked items. The Data View follows these actual Links.

Convert an existing Field

Conversion starts with a complete inventory of source records, including records without links. Explicitly choose a target for each record, or no target where permitted. An old scalar value never selects an object automatically. The Field retains its Model type and required constraint; no empty or default value is manufactured to satisfy a constraint.

The preview shows before/after values and effects on links. Confirm that same selection after reviewing it. If the confirmation outcome is uncertain, resume the retained confirmation rather than creating another operation. Changed heads, configuration or permissions cause a refusal, not a silent new selection. An interface or tool that does not explicitly support this conversion leaves it unavailable.

Configuration requires the applicable owner permissions on both apps and their content. A link delegates no access; reading and changing references use permissions distinct from configuration authority, for users and AI alike.

Changing labels, presentation or disabling the configuration preserves existing links and their identity. These operations do not change endpoints or selected targets. Retargeting requires an explicit selection; disabling does not delete existing relations.

The Links section shows compact cards with both applications and their configured Fields. Open a card to inspect its mapping, edit labels, choose a library icon or adjust relation limits. Incoming links can be inspected in place; their source application retains management authority. Disabling a link preserves existing relations. Search and counters cover the loaded links; use continuation to load more. These settings apply when saved, independently of Model publication.

You can configure a link while editing an application draft. Links use the published Fields of both applications; publish new or changed Fields before selecting them here. Saving a link does not publish your draft, and a changed published Model requires reviewing the link’s configuration.

Select a linked object

A linked Field displays a link indicator and selection control. Search proposes target records the user can access. Choosing North Studio stores that client’s reference instead of copying contact information into the quote.

If the client’s name changes, the link retains its identity. If access changes, the interface does not disclose inaccessible data. Deletion and structural changes follow the declared relation policy.

On a Client record, Quotes uses a Query bound to the current client. Show three or four items, followed by View all. The complete collection preserves client context and offers search, sorting and pagination. Each relation group has its own limit so the side panel does not grow with the entire database.

Verify configuration

Create a quote, select North Studio and open the link. Return to the client and verify that the quote appears. Try both selection and reading with a member whose permissions are restricted. Tags help classification; the identified link remains the business relation.

Applied examples : Select and revisit the client

The selector fills the quote’s client link and the Client record presents its associated quotes.
